We bet you aren’t aware of the ways you could cut back on water usage in your home! Your habits might not feel wasteful, but sometimes they can be. From leaving the water on while you brush your teeth to a perpetually leaky faucet, our Atlanta plumbing services can help you find ways to conserve water and cut back on your water bill each month.
Replace Fixtures With Low-Flow Fixtures
Many people are unaware that their older shower heads can use as much as 5 gallons of water per minute. A simple solution to this problem is to purchase a low-flow showerhead. A low-flow shower head the fixture uses less than 2.5 gallons of water per minute, almost cutting the amount of water used in half! Another change you could make to your faucets to decrease the amount of water you use is an aerator. Aerators are a great option that don’t affect water pressure. Many new fixtures are made with one built in! Keep an eye out for faucets with that word on it when deciding how you will update the fixtures throughout your home. There are also water-sensing dishwasher and washing machines. They will only use the appropriate amount of water for what you are washing. There is much less waste this way!
Repair Leaking Faucets
If your water bill suddenly spikes, seemingly out of nowhere, it is probable that there is a leak somewhere. It is well worth your time and money to call in a plumber to find and fix the leak! A small drip in one of your faucets could waste up to 20 gallons of water per day. That’s a lot of water!
Turn Off Water While Brushing Teeth
Turning off running water while you brush your teeth could make a huge difference in your household water conservation! The same goes for washing your hands. Turning the water off while you scrub the germs off your hands can is a small, easy way to contribute to a decrease in water usage. Other ways include taking less showers and not flushing the toilet every time you use the restroom (within reason – always using your best judgment). Only run your washing machine or dishwasher when it is full. Don’t rinse your dishes too much before they go in the dishwasher – let the dishwasher do what it’s made to do! Running to water to rinse the dishes only wastes water. Another simple solution is to wear your clothes more than once.
Collect Water From Your Shower for Your Plants
Grey water is the term for the extra water that comes from your showers, baths, and sinks. You could use this water for your garden our house plants, or even to flush your toilet!
Making these small changes could be huge for the environment and your wallet! If our 24 hour plumbers in Atlanta could be in assistance to you for any of these changes, please let us know by calling (770) 860-8110.
