When Should I Replace My Plumbing?
When should you get your plumbing replaced? This is a common question our plumbers at High Priority Plumbing receive a lot. Knowing when to replace your plumbing can be difficult, but we have a few tips to help you determine if replacing your plumbing is something you consider. Unless you just built your home or if it’s a few years old, there’s a chance your plumbing is outdated. However, just because your plumbing is outdated doesn’t necessarily mean it needs to be replaced. There’s no need to replace something if it’s still working just because it’s old. So when should you replace your old plumbing? Here are three signs that could indicate the time to replace your plumbing is now.
When Your Water Begins to Smell
Does your water have a foul odor? If so, it definitely shouldn’t! Water with any sort of smell could indicate a build-up of bacteria within your pipes. This build-up of bacteria could lead to some parts of your plumbing needing to be replaced. One distinct smell that our customers notice right away is that their water smells like eggs.
When the Water Stops Being Clear
Water is supposed to be clear. When you turn on the faucet and your water is anything but clear, this should cause you some concern (an exception to this could be if your home uses well water). Water with a darker color, such as a tint of brown, usually indicates some sort of pipe corrosion. When the water is channelled through your plumbing pipes, it can pick up and carry any rust that exists in your pipes. This water is not good for you to use! Pipes with rust are more likely to have sediment and mineral deposits build-up. This leads to the chance of developing clogs and sometimes even a bursting pipe; due to the pressure that can build up from the lack of open space in the pipe. If you have any concerns about the possible build-up in your pipes please contact one of our experienced emergency plumbers immediately.
When You Begin to Notice Mold and Water Damage
Leaky pipes and plumbing fixtures are not uncommon. As long as they are repaired in a timely manner, you should be fine. However, not all leaks are that apparent. Some leaks can remain hidden behind walls and more often than not we notice these too late. When you discover a giant brown water stain, most likely with mold, then you know something is leaking! When you notice a brown water stain or mold – contact your local plumber immediately! The longer you allow leaky pipes to sit, the more likely they are to cause damage to your home.
